Cross the Marc Basnight Bridge from Nags Head, drive about 27 miles of NC-12, and Rodanthe is the first village you reach — the northern edge of the tri-villages. It's noticeably quieter and less built-up than the towns north of Oregon Inlet, with a real surf-and-fishing streak underneath the rental inventory. Good for people who want Hatteras Island proper without driving to the bottom of it.
